The iPhone 18 Generation: Which Models Exist and What Is Still Coming

In short: For the first time, an iPhone generation is arriving in two stages. The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max have been available since 18 September 2026, and the foldable iPhone Duo follows on 23 October 2026. According to consistent reports, the standard iPhone 18, a cheaper iPhone 18e and an iPhone Air 2 are expected in spring 2027. Apple has not confirmed this. Until then, the iPhone 17, iPhone 17e and iPhone Air remain on sale.
Why Apple split the cycle
At its 9 September event Apple showed only the Pro models and the foldable Duo. As early as January 2026, Nikkei reported that Apple wanted to spread out its launches. MacRumors and Macworld followed up, and comments from camera-module supplier Largan in June 2026 pointed the same way. Analysts cite supply-chain load, smoother revenue and less competition for attention as likely reasons. Apple does not comment on unreleased products.

Still on sale
The iPhone 17, iPhone 17e and iPhone Air (from €1,299) remain on sale. All three run iOS 27 and support Apple Intelligence. They lack the variable aperture, the A20 Pro and the new N1 and C2 radios.
Rumours: spring 2027
The following comes from reports and supply-chain sources and is not confirmed by Apple.
- iPhone 18 (rumoured): 6.3-inch display, A20 chip, C2 modem, around $899 in the US.
- iPhone 18e (rumoured): 6.1-inch 60 Hz display, single 48 MP camera, around $699.
- iPhone Air 2 (rumoured): a successor to the ultra-thin Air; details are still vague.

- You want the best now: the iPhone 18 Pro is the most balanced model.
- You want a big screen for reading and multitasking: the iPhone Duo, if your budget allows.
- You want to stay under €1,000: an iPhone 17 or 17e now, or wait for the reported iPhone 18.
- Your iPhone still works well: wait, since iOS 27 runs on older models too.
